Waiting on the Call: Horse Drag at the Lorain County Fair

I took this photo in the early 70s at the fair and always loved the feel of it. I finally figured out what todo with it. It begged to be large and so it is. 42"tall  x 70" long.

My horse High Hand Joe, my first good show horse, he was an appaloosa. I took him to Clark Bradley's adult horse camp for a 3 day weekend, there were 56 quarter horses, 2 paints and Joe, the lone appaloosa. Funny enough he had some great quarter horse blood in him. He liked to pretend he was a saddlebred from time to time and do some fancy gaits, only at a show though. He was used to winning and would try to get out the gate of the show ring first. Unfortunately until I got to be a better rider we didn't win, much to his disgust.

There is a ton of stitching in different colored thread on this quilt.

Freckles

My favorite grade school sweater. This was fun I played with the transparency of the fabric and added a red polka dot under the face. I had a few freckles but nothing to agonize over. Actually I thought my nose was huge, silly me.

Bird Girl

My mother wanted a girl and so I came along after 2 boys. She was worried about raising me with so many brothers so she gave me 3 younger brothers. She worried about me being a tom boy and tried to tame me. It sort of worked, I like dresses but am just as happy in blue jeans and a t shirt.

Business Man

This is a business photo of my dad. I flipped one  photo to create a bit of tension. Love the blue eyes. And the back is fun since I decided to add some patchwork for the so called "Art Quilt critics" who always declare "there's no patchwork!"

Rosie

This is my paint horse Rosie from a personal photo. I originally made this a sepia duotone print but is seemed garish to me even after I stitched it so I bit the bullet, had it reprinted as black and white and massively stitched it. I stitched the eye twice on the first one, this eye is perfect. Practice does pay off.
